How Guestlist and Bottle Service Work at Toronto Clubs

Two questions come up before every night out in Toronto: how do I get in, and what does a table cost? This is the straight answer to both.

What guestlist actually means

Guestlist is a free sign-up through the venue or one of its promoters. Being on it usually gets you free or reduced cover before a cutoff time, most often between 11 PM and midnight, and access to a dedicated, faster line. On many King West nights the offer is ladies free before the cutoff, with a reduced rate for men.

It is not a guarantee. The door still enforces the dress code, still prefers balanced groups and still stops honouring the list once the cutoff passes or the room is at capacity. Treat it as a head start, not a ticket.

Cover charges in Toronto

Without guestlist, expect roughly $20 to $40 at the big nightclubs on a Saturday, more on holiday weekends and for headline DJ shows, which are ticketed. Smaller lounges and Latin nights run $10 to $25, and several bar-club hybrids charge nothing at all. Most doors are cashless now; bring a card.

How bottle service works

You reserve a table for a set minimum spend, which is applied to bottles, mixers and food. Prices for a standard bottle of premium spirits run several hundred dollars and include mixers, ice, glassware, a dedicated server and, at most venues, a sparkler entrance. Tax and a service charge of around 18 to 20 percent are added on top of the minimum.

Minimums depend on the venue, the night and where the table sits. A small lounge on a Friday might start in the high hundreds; a prime table at Rebel or Lost & Found on a long weekend runs well into the thousands. Tables usually accommodate a set number of guests, and extra guests can sometimes be added for a fee.

Is a table worth it?

For groups of six or more, often yes. Divide the minimum by the number of guests, add what you would have spent on cover and bar drinks, and the gap shrinks fast. You also skip the line, get a guaranteed spot to sit and store coats, and your host handles the door. For couples or small groups, guestlist plus arriving early is the better value.
